Railways to Extend Advanced Reservation Period to 120 Days

The Indian railway Ministry decided to increment the advanced reservation period to 120 days from current 90 days from 10th march 2012 on an Experimental basis.
There will not be any change in case of the limit of 360 days for foreign tourists for the ticket booking.

Travel with SMS Notification of E Tickets in Trains

Passengers of Indian Railway are now allowed to travel in Trains with any of the below mentioned Tickets along with the ID Proofs.

1. Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS) -> Is the Normal Printout ticket
2. Virtual Reservation Message (VRM) -> E Ticket Printouts in Mobilephone/Laptop/Palmtop
3. SMS sent by IRCTC

VRM/ SMS sent by IRCTC combined with valid photo-id in original will be treated as an instrument on par with the ERS.
